I doubt you'll find an outdoor lover that doesn't like Fall.

Autumn is the time of year when the nights start getting cooler, the trees change color to make the mountains look like artists' dreams, football games start back up and all the hunts begin. There are so many fun things to do in the fall because the weather usually is so easy to manage.

Go to a college or pro football game (and these days even high school) and, if you show up early, you'll probably have more fun hanging out at the party than watching the game. Tailgating is a right and an honor that all football fans should join in on. There is something great about being able to cook your favorite meat, sip on a cold one and laugh with friends. It just gets you more revved up than any cheerleader ever could. Fall is ushered in by football and without it, many men would go mad.

Hiking and biking trails take on a new feel in the Fall. The same trail that you've ridden all summer now has a new look and has a different sound to it under your feet. The days might be getting shorter, but you'll surely want to spend more time on the trails to soak it all in. As the leaves begin to fall from the trees, a new view opens up, creating an exciting new dimension to the landscape.

The thrill of the hunt, or so they say, is the whole reason to be out there in the wild. But, sometimes, I have to disagree. I really enjoy hearing all the "you should have seen..." or "I was so close" stories --- tales that get told each night by the campfire. And, of course, the food is always worth the wait. Some of the best hunting trips aren't always the ones where we get the biggest game. Although, I must admit that bagging the big one is always a plus.

So, as you can see, Fall is a great time of year. There is so much to do that I could write on and on. But, I think I'd rather you were out there enjoying it. So let's say goodbye to Summer and hello to all that Fall has to offer.

Our hearts got out to the great people of Louisiana, Mississippi, and the other southern states hit by Hurricane Katrina. It's a tough time for them and I hope it makes us all reflect on the importance of being prepared. You should always have enough water and food that you can last at least 3 days while the help is on the way to you. But those are the obvious things you should have in your emergency closet, we would also suggest that you have some personal hygiene items and a heat source for cooking. A lot can be done with a stove that runs on a propane tank other than just cooking; one of those is boiling water so it's healthy to drink. We would never wish a major disaster on anyone, but we would highly suggest that we all be prepared for whatever might come.
